AUSTIN — The Texas Longhorns will enter the Southeastern Conference with high expectations as the Longhorns roster is 3rd on ESPN’s FPI. Former Alabama head coach Nick Saban was on the SEC now panel on the SEC Network and gave his take on Texas’ outlook in the SEC.

“What kind of tickles me is the people asking questions about how Texas always ran the conference they were in. They are not going to run the SEC”

-Nick Saban on Texas

This reaction could be sour grapes as the Longhorns defeated Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa 34-24 last season. Saban may disagree but Texas currently holds the second-best odds to win the SEC in its first season in the conference. The Longhorns are returning starting QB Quinn Ewers and one of the best offensive lines in the country anchored by OT Kelvin Banks

Texas also picked up a couple of top transfer targets in former Crimson Tide WR Isaiah Bond and former UTSA DE Trey Moore. Bond accounted for 668 yards and four touchdowns last year and Moore had 14 sacks with the Roadrunners in 2023.

The Longhorns will get their chance to prove Saban wrong as they start SEC play at home versus Mississippi State on August 31st. The game will be televised on ESPN at 2:30 CT.
