2027 Recruiting Class Preview: Wide Receivers and Tight Ends

AUSTIN — Wide receivers and tight ends are two positions that Sarkisian and the Longhorns have always pursued rather heavily. The 2027 recruiting cycle is no exception. With 16 wide receivers and nine tight ends offered, here’s an early look at 2027 target recruits that the Texas coaching staff has already offered.
Wide receivers
- 5-star No. 1 Xavier Sabb (NJ)
- 5-star No. 2 Easton Royal (LA)
- 4-star No. 10 Kesean Bowman (TN)
- 4-star No. 11 Quentin Hale (CA)
- 4-star Np. 13 Julian Caldwell (TX)
- 4-star No. 18 Dontay Tyson (AZ)
- 4-star No. 20 Jaden Upshaw (GA)
- 4-star No. 25 Alvin Mosley (TX)
- 4-star No. 26 Trenton Yancey (TX)
- 4-star No. 28 Miguel Whitley (LA)
- 4-star No. 39 Zerek Sidney (AZ)
- 3-star No. 54 Briceson Thrower (TX)
- 3-star No. 61 Ray’Quan Williams (LA)
- 3-star No. 65 Aden Starling (TX)
- Unrated Jermiah Douglass (TX)
Sabb is unanimously the best athlete in the class, according to every major recruiting service. His speed sets him apart, but his ability to track the ball and make the catch no matter what is what makes him one of the best.
Moore is the highest-ranked Texas lean early on, and he’d be a great pickup for the Longhorns in 2027. He’s a bit more physical and not as shifty as Sabb, but Moore could easily set himself apart and see his ranking rise as a junior and senior.
Mosley has also been recruiting pretty heavily by Texas early on, compared to the rest. But still expect Texas to continue to make evaluations and go hard for guys like Royal, Hale, Caldwell, and others.
Tight ends
- 5-star No. 1 Ahmad Hudson (LA)
- 4-star No. 2 Brock Williams (IL)
- 4-star No. 4 Seneca Driver (KY)
- 4-star No. 6 Jack Brown (MO)
- 4-star No. 7 Jaxon Dollar (NC)
- 4-star No. 11 Zac Fares (NV)
- 4-star No. 15 Grant Haviland (GA)
- 3-star No. 26 JT Geraci (NJ)
- 3-star No. 29 Mason Hall (GA)
Hudson could be the best pickup of the 2027 class if Texas were able to secure his commitment. His size and physicality are what make him a tight end, but he’s similar to a wide receiver; fans could think of him in a similar vein to Amari Niblack.
He’s also a dual-sport athlete and ranked as a top 4 center as a basketball recruit. Maybe he’ll play both, or maybe he’ll choose one or the other. Either way, expect Texas to go hard for this strong LSU lean.
Brown also makes great first impressions when you watch him. His size and play are somewhat similar to Hudson’s, but instead of also playing basketball, he also plays defense. He’d be a nice one to secure if Texas couldn’t get Hudson or Driver.
Although Geraci falls towards the bottom of the list, fans should not overlook him. He’s probably the most traditional tight end on the list with big playmaking capabilities, but more of a tendency to block or catch short-range passes.
