What 4-Star TE Nick Townsend brings to Texas

By Published On: July 16, 2024

The Longhorns added a big boost to their 2025 recruiting class with Nick Townsend, a four-star tight end who attends Dekaney High School in Houston, verbally committing to Texas.

This commitment adds some considerable size to the Longhorns’ tight end room. Townsend stands at 6-foot-3 and weighs 235 pounds. The four-star picked Texas over Texas A&M, USC and Alabama.

Townsend is fast and quick for a tight end his size. He runs like a receiver and has lined up in the slot, out wide and pretty much anywhere you would see a pass catcher. His acceleration is immense and he has an amazing release off of the line. Once Townsend is in the open field, good luck trying to catch up to him. Townsend’s long legs help him keep a very long stride that propels him into the endzone.

He is also a very physical prospect. This aggression helps Townsend after the catch as well. It is very hard to bring him down once he has possession as he will look to run through a defender before he goes around them.

With Sarkisian’s staff developing Townsend, he will have an opportunity to be a top player in the SEC for many years to come.
