Texas football’s relationship has only gotten stronger with 4-Star QB Dia Bell

By Published On: October 4, 2024

Four-star quarterback and class of 2026 Texas commit Dia Bell has been shining so far this season.

The 6-foot-2, 200-pound gunslinger has totaled 1,657 yards through the air with an accurate 71.5 completion percentage. He also has shown toughness, taking 40 carries for 246 yards on the ground. His relationship with Texas has also grown in the process.

“I think that my relationship with Texas has only gotten stronger,” Bell told Touchdown Texas. “I am in constant communication with them. We watch every game live here in Florida and then I rewatch them to just focus on the offensive plays. My schedule has made it tough to get out for a game, but, I will be at the Georgia game for sure.”

Bell is a scoring machine. He has accounted for 20 passing touchdowns and two on the ground. What makes this more impressive is Bell has played only six games, and many times he is pulled before the fourth quarter.

Bell has had a tremendous leap from last season to this current one. In twelve games last season, he only had 272 more passing yards and had the same amount of passing touchdowns as he currently does, only six games in.

The Texas commit attributes this success to last year’s experience, his offseason work and his coaches.

“I think this year’s numbers are a result of opportunity,” said Bell. “We didn’t throw the ball much last year. Our new offensive coordinator opened up our offense and allowed me to get the ball to our weapons a lot more this season. I have great receivers who can all make plays and an incredible offensive line that gives me time to do my job.”

Bell has used his legs to make plays frequently this season. While he would use them to escape the pocket last season, he now sees the opportunities in running downfield. When asked about being a dual-threat quarterback, Bell says, ” I’ve always been a guy who could make plays with my legs. Last year, I ran to throw most of the time. I am trying to keep defenses more honest this year by taking those running opportunities when I see them.” Bell has definitely kept them honest this season with 246 rushing yards so far.

Malachi Toney is Bell’s main reciever, and they have a great chemistry. It seems like they are always on the same page and this is evident by Toney’s average of 98 receiving yards a game. Bell and Toney have been teammates since freshman year, and are looking to continue developing together.

“I have a great relationship with Malachi,” Bell said. “We’ve really worked hard to develop our chemistry. I will throw for him at his receiver workouts sometimes and he will catch for me at my quarterback workouts from time to time. It also helps that he’s played QB in youth football. He sees things the way I do.” This is a great sign for American Heritage fans, and also Texas fans as it shows how easy it is for Bell to connect with his receivers.

American Heritage has a bye week coming up, but that doesn’t mean Bell and the team are taking the week off. They play Norland in two weeks and Bell said they won’t stop preparing, but also has an emphasis on recovery.

“We are definitely watching a bunch of film and will be locked in to their game against Cocoa on Friday. Mostly I’m really focused on recovery this week, after six games you get banged up. Having the week to rest and get healthy is huge for our whole team.”

Bell is an extremely talented quarterback. Longhorn fans should be very excited for this high-level prospect to finally enroll at the 40-acres.
