AUSTIN — Texas redshirt-freshman cornerback Wardell Mack was arrested and charged with DWI in Austin by the Travis County Sheriff’s Office at 1:07 a.m. this morning, and was later released on a 00 bond.

Mack is 19 and originally from New Orleans. He used his redshirt after appearing in four games for the Longhorns last season, recording just two tackles, a pass deflection, and one interception. Out of high school, he was ranked as the No. 20 cornerback, No. 5 player out of Louisiana, and the No. 143 player in the nation overall.

Head coach Steve Sarkisian made a statement on the matter through a University of Texas spokesperson.

“We will continue to monitor he legal process, and the situation will be handled internally at the appropriate time,” Sarkisian said in the statement released by the UT spokesperson.

Mack’s attorney, Logan Campbell, declined to go into detail on the situation.

“Due to the pending nature of the case, we have no comment at this time,” Campbell said.

The arrest was first reported by Andrew Schnitker of KXAN.
