How SEC Foes Performed in Week 6

AUSTIN — As Texas has now emerged into conference play with its SEC opener and loss to Florida, SEC play is now fully underway, and it’s time to take a look at how the Longhorns’ SEC performed on Saturday.
As poorly as the Longhorns played on Saturday, they weren’t the only SEC team to lose. Here’s how every SEC team that Texas will face performed in Week 6, along with who ESPN’s analytics now favor.
No. 6 Oklahoma
Result: 44-0 win over Kent State
How: With Heisman hopeful quarterback John Mateer out, backup QB Michael Hawkins led the Sooners as they cruised to an easy win. The running backs led in yardage and carried the team for the most part, with 185 rushing yards.
Chance to beat Texas: 39.1%
Kentucky
Result: 35-14 loss to No. 12 Georgia
How: Although quarterback Cutter Boley threw for 225 yards, the Wildcats’ inability to run the ball efficiently hurt them severely. Kentucky only managed to record 45 rushing yards, and it hurt them in the end.
Chance to beat Texas: 21%
Mississippi State
Result: 31-9 loss to No. 6 Texas A&M
How: The Bulldogs were shut down on every level. Their defense was the star of the show, managing to keep it low scoring for most of the game. However, only 219 yards of total offense didn’t allow for much.
Chance to beat Texas: 20.6%
No. 20 Vanderbilt
Result: 30-14 loss to No. 8 Alabama
How: The Alabama defense was able to completely stuff quarterback Diego Pavia in the second half of the game, as Vanderbilt wasn’t able to score at all. The Crimson Tide’s Heisman hopeful QB also proved too much for the Commodores’ defense.
Chance to beat Texas: 31.4%
No. 10 Georgia
Result: 35-14 win over Kentucky
How: The Bulldogs at home were too dominant for Kentucky, especially as Georgia was looking for a bounce-back win after its loss to Alabama at home the week prior. QB Gunner Stockton led the way with 244 total yards.
Chance to beat Texas: 58.8%
Arkansas
Bye week
No. 5 Texas A&M
Result: 31-9 win over Mississippi State
How: Playing the Aggies at Kyle Field during a blackout proved to be too tall a task for the Bulldogs as the Aggies’ ground game accounted for 303 of 483 total yards. It also took weight off QB Marcel Reed, as he only needed to complete 13 passes in the win.
Chance to beat Texas: 36%
