Sarkisian Tells What He Learned After Texas’ 23-6 Win Over Oklahoma

By Published On: October 13, 2025

AUSTIN — Fans, coaches and everyone in the college football world learned something about the Texas Longhorns (4-2) after they secured their first big win this season, beating a top-10 Oklahoma 23-6 on Saturday.

The game started as a defensive battle, as neither offense was able to manage much, and the game ended up going into halftime with a score of 6-3. However, the Longhorns came out of halftime and scored 20 unanswered points.

After the second-half comeback and first conference win of the season for the Longhorns, head coach Steve Sarkisian told reporters what he learned about his team in his post-game press conference.

“I think that we learned how to fight today,” Sarkisian said. “And I think that we don’t have to wait till the twelfth round to try to knock somebody out to win a game. We can win rounds, and we can continue to fight for four quarters. And like I said, I think we saw the true character of the men in that locker room today, their connectivity, their love for one another. You heard these two guys just say it — staying connected. Continue to grind with one another. Because it’s easy to succumb to the outside noise. And there was a lot of shit getting talked about our team, about these guys, and I think they responded.”

Responding to the outside noise is exactly what the Longhorns did, as there was plenty of negativity surrounding the team, and quarterback Arch Manning specifically, after Texas’ second loss of the season to the Florida Gators the week prior.

Texas will now shift its focus to the Kentucky Wildcats (2-3), a team that will be searching for its first conference win as it hosts a Top-25 Texas team in Lexington after coming off a bye week.
