Sarkisian Tells How the Tight Ends Need to Contribute More

By Published On: October 17, 2025

AUSTIN — The Longhorns are 4-2 after a win over Oklahoma on Saturday, but now that the focus has shifted to Kentucky, head coach Steve Sarkisian wants more utilization of tight ends Jack Endries and Jordan Washington.

Endries transferred to Texas from Cal over the offseason, but hasn’t made much of an impact up to this point. So far, he’s only managed to acquire 11 receptions for 112 yards and two touchdowns.

However, we know he’s capable of much more, as he recorded 623 receiving yards, two touchdowns, and two games with at least 100 yards last year with the Golden Bears. But his quietness this season isn’t all his fault.

Sarkisian spoke on Thursday about the impact he’s made this season and how he wants to see more.

“I’m satisfied with how [Endries is] contributing,” Sarkisian said. “Naturally, we’ve been finding our way as a passing game. We need him to be a contributor, probably more so than he is right now, whether it’s he or Jordan Washington or any of those tight ends. It’s a deep room. The tight end is a really good friend to a quarterback, and we probably haven’t been friendly enough to Arch in utilizing the tight end. So, creating a few more opportunities there for some throws to the tight end, I think, will be beneficial for our offense. I think it’ll be beneficial for Arch, and obviously for those guys, and most importantly, Jack [Endries]. If we can find some completions for him to where we can continue to move the chains forward and stay out of those third and long situations that have plagued us early in the season.”

Washington, a sophomore tight end, did not see the field at all last season, but is now getting his chance to make an impact. However, it’s off to a slower start, as he’s only recorded five catches for 79 yards and a touchdown.

If Sarkisian and the Longhorns can find a way to implement the tight ends into the game plan and play-calling, then Texas could have a dangerous tight end room. Both of them have the ability to make a real impact in the game, so it will be interesting to see if Sarkisian does draw up some plays for them, as they could help lead Texas to newfound success this season.

We’ll see what happens and if Sarkisian does involve them more when the Longhorns take on the Wildcats in Lexington on Saturday at 6 p.m. CT on ESPN. Texas is currently favored by 12.5 points, according to BetMGM.
