Reports Suggest Sarkisian May be Interested in NFL Coaching Jobs

AUSTIN — Things got off to a surprising and somewhat concerning start for the Longhorns on Saturday, who didn’t even have to wait until their 3:15 p.m. kickoff to see their team make headlines.
As college football got going around the country on Saturday morning, a report from The Athletic’s Dianna Rossini was posted on social media, saying that Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian’s agents have been in contact with NFL organizations, letting them know that Sarkisian would be interested in any potential head coach openings.

The report sparked numerous conversations among Texas fans and raised concerns about the future of their head coach.
However, hours later, Steve Sarkisian’s agents, Jimmy Sexton and Ed Marynowitz, released a statement denying the reports.
“Any reports regarding communications on coaching opportunities with NFL teams are patently false and wildly inaccurate,” Sexton and Marynowitz said in the statement. “[Sarkisian] is solely focused on coaching the University of Texas football team.”
The report came at an odd time, just hours before Texas was set to kick off against the Mississippi State Bulldogs in Starkville.
It would be an interesting move for Sarkisian to make, especially after receiving two extensions and raises in the past two years. He’d also owe the University of Texas money if he were to leave.
It will be interesting to see what comes of this news and if it seemingly affects the team at all.
