Quarterback
While every position is crucial for the success of the Horns, none is more important than the quarterback position. Luckily for Texas, the Horns have the third-best quarterback room in the country, according to On3. Starting quarterback Quinn Ewers is hoping to follow up on his successful 2023 campaign with another fantastic season. As a Heisman Trophy hopeful, Ewers is an experienced, well-rounded, and dual-threat playmaker. He is the perfect QB to lead the Horns into the SEC.Â
Backups Arch Manning and Trey Owens are also a big reason why the Horns have such a high ranking. Both Manning and Owens are some of the best replacement options in college football. Manning, especially, having been in the program for a year learning the ins and outs of the offense and the playbook. These three QBs combined makes Texas a top three room in the country.

Wide Receivers
Texas lost a lot of talent to the NFL Draft last season. One room hurt most by the draft exodus was the receiver room. Having lost Adonai Mitchell, Xavier Worthy, and Ja’Tavion Sanders, this year’s receiving room is looking to make a name for themselves. PFF has ranked a new group of transfers and underclassmen the fifth best receiving room in the country.Â
Led by newcomers Isiah Bond, Amari Niblack, Matthew Golden, Silas Bolden, and Ryan Wingo, the Horns are not lacking in the talent department. Add in returning sophomore Johntay Cook, and the Texas receiving room is stacked. Expect this receiving group to be one of the fastest in the entire country as well.
Offensive Line
The position group with the most importance entering the SEC is the offensive line. According to PFF, Texas has the fourth-best offensive line. Led by NFL hopeful Kelvin Banks Jr, the Texas offensive line will have no issue transitioning to the SEC and going up against more physical defenses.Â
The Longhorns are returning four out of their five starters from a season before, and each player has only gotten better in the offseason. Expect the Horns offensive line to give Quinn Ewers enough protection to make Texas one of the best offenses in the entire country.
Defensive Line
Whenever anyone talks about SEC football, the first thing people think of is physicality. Texas’ defensive line is not lacking in physicality, experience, or talent, which is why they are ranked 8th best in the country. Led by Trey Moore, Alfred Collins, Barryn Sorrell, and Bill Norton, Texas has one of the strongest DLs in the country.
Each one of these players will be playing on Sunday next season which is why they will have no issues handling SEC offensive lines. The DL is also one of the most experienced position groups on the Texas roster as well!
Defensive Backs
If there was one thing Texas needed to improve upon heading into 2024, it was their pass defense. The Longhorns were not a top 100 pass defense team last season, and Coach Sark knew he needed reinforcements. Which is why the Horns added some depth to the DB room. With this depth, the Horns now have the 6th best DB room in the country. With the addition of Andrew Mukuba from Clemson and another year gained from Malik Muhammad and Jahdae Barron, the Horns will have a much improved pass defense heading into 2024.Â
