What Texas is Getting in 4 Star Cornerback Kade Phillips

The Longhorns have landed a big-time commitment from four-star cornerback, Kade Phillips.
Phillips attends Fort Bend Hightower in Missouri City, Texas. The 6-foot-1, 175-pound defensive back is very lanky and shows tremendous speed.
The Texas product holds a PR of 21.50s in the 200-meter dash and has a season-best long jump of 24 feet and 7.5 inches. Experience in track is always a plus for a football player, and especially for a cornerback. Phillips is a very athletic kid, who has great intangibles already. This speed helps him keep up and be effective when trailing wide receivers in coverage. He is able to jump up and pick off passes that come his way, and he is great in coverage in 50/50 situations.
Phillips displays impressive effort on the field and regularly streaks across the width of the field to make a tackle. His speed helps with hawking down these ball carriers, but his grit is what keeps him going. He plays with a lot of toughness and is never scared to lay a big hit out.
Football IQ is high on the list of abilities that Phillips possesses as he is able to locate where the ball is going before it leaves the quarterback’s hands, a trait he uses to break up passes on the field.
Longhorn fans should be very excited about the commitment of Phillips. He is a very intriguing prospect that may have to put on a few more pounds but could be a lockdown corner in the SEC if he reaches his full potential.
