AUSTIN — 4-star running back commit Derrek Cooper has canceled his Saturday visit to Florida State. The No. 2-ranked running back in the class of 2026 has been committed to the Longhorns since July 20.

Cooper is a Florida native out of Fort Lauderdale and has been heavily recruited by Florida schools, including Florida State, Miami, Florida, and UCF. Other national powerhouses, such as Ohio State and Georgia, have also targeted him.

He was set for a visit to Tallahassee this weekend as the Seminoles are set to take on the Hurricanes. However, Cooper has reinforced his commitment to the Longhorns by cancelling his upcoming visit.

The Seminoles, among others, will continue to recruit Cooper, as he is one of the most highly touted running backs in the nation.

Through five games with Chaminade-Madonna Prep this season, he’s already managed to acquire 324 rushing yards and six touchdowns on just 44 carries. Last season, he put up more than 1,000 all-purpose yards.

Cooper has the potential to be the next great Texas running back, and Longhorns fans should be excited for his arrival.
