Halftime Thoughts as Texas Trails Oklahoma 6-3

DALLAS — The Longhorns are currently trailing the Sooners 6-3 at halftime in a defensive showing from both teams. Texas is looking better than it did against Florida, but there are still many issues that need to be addressed.
Here are some halftime notes:
– Texas’ ground game is looking miles better than what we saw last week. Tre Wisner has made a huge impact for the Longhorns so far, especially as he played a major role in the long drive down the field that resulted in a field goal.
– Quarterback Arch Manning is looking good. Not great, but good. His decision-making hasn’t been terrible up to this point, and he’s managed to avoid turning the ball over yet. He’s made some nice throws on the run and is 10-14 so far. However, he will have to step up in the second half because, right now, he’s not making a difference for the Longhorns.
– Cornerback Malik Muhammad is making a huge impact, as he’s got two interceptions in the first half. He’s playing a major role in this defense’s improvement from last week. We need to keep seeing this type of play out of him and everyone else.
– Defense is looking great. Can’t ask for much more from the Longhorns, as they’ve held a great Oklahoma offense led by Heisman contender John Mateer to just six points in the first half. The Texas defense will need to do a better job of containing the middle of the field, but aside from that, there’s not much more to improve upon.
– It’s also notable to mention how unfortunate it was that one of the field goals attempted by Texas hit the upright. Had it gone in, Texas would not be trailing at halftime right now. It wouldn’t be leading, but it wouldn’t be trailing.
– Penalties have to stay under control. Sitting at three right now isn’t terrible, but we know this is something that Texas struggles with, and it had two within the first five minutes. They’ll need to keep them under control in the second half.
